Enterprise Ireland is the government organisation responsible for the development and growth of Irish enterprises in world markets. We work in partnership with Irish enterprises to help them start, grow, innovate and win export sales on global markets. In this way we support sustainable economic growth, regional development and secure employment.
Enterprise Ireland set up its office in Kuala Lumpur in 1996. Malaysia is the largest trading partner for Ireland in the ASEAN region. The balance of trade with Malaysia is strongly in Ireland’s favour. In 2010 Ireland’s two-way merchandise trade with Malaysia was €898 million (CSO), with Ireland’s exports at slightly over €693 million. Today more than 130 Irish companies have exported both products and services to Malaysia, and over thirty Irish companies have a presence in the Malaysian market.

Inward buyers visit from Malaysia
Working with the newly formed IMA and the Malaysian Irish Business Network (MIBN) the Irish Chamber on Malaysia, Enterprise Ireland organised a group of six Malaysian companies to visit Ireland from June 6 to 11, 2011. The visitors met with more that 30 Irish companies to explore business opportunities and networked with the IMA members at a lunch event.
Inward buyers visit from the ASEAN region
Enterprise Ireland organised a group of 15 inward buyers from the ASEAN region from October 2 to 7, 2011. The group included three companies from Malaysia, including the Chair of the Malaysian Irish Business Network (MIBN) Ron Anderson. Some business deals initiated on the earlier visit were progressed and Enterprise Ireland is now following up on potential export contracts.
